Cardiology Associates of Fairfield County, P.C. Clinical Research Group prides ourself in the quality of our research staff. Our program has two Certified Clinical Research Coordinators by the Academy of Clinical Research Professionals and many distinguished support staff. All clinical research coordinators are trained in Good Clinical Practice, Human Subject Protection, FDA Regulations, IATA Regulations, phlebotomy, electronic data capture, electronic medical records, and basic clinical skills to ensure our patients are provided with the best care possible while participating in one of our trials.
Edward Portnay, M.D. - Co-Director of Clinical Research
Dr. Edward (Ted) Portnay has been practicing medicine for over 20 years. As an Interventional Cardiologist and Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab at Stamford Hospital, he specializes in diagnosing and treating Coronary Arterial Disease and Peripheral Arterial Disease. He has been the Principal Investigator for over 20 clinical trials.
David Lorenz, M.D. - Co-Director of Clinical Research
Dr. David Lorenz is the CEO of Cardiology Physicians of Fairfield County, P.C. and has been practicing medicine for over 20 years. Dr. Lorenz specializes in Interventional Cardiology and has been a Principal and Sub-Investigator on numerous breakthrough clinical trials.
Kristen Strubberg, CCRC - Clinical Research Coordinator
Kristen graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Neuroscience and a Minor in Anthropology. Kristen has both academic and clinical research experience in a range of topics including sleep, ALS, and reduction of stress levels using mindfulness techniques. She has healthcare experience at both Greenwich Hospital and Norwalk Hospital. Kristen desires to continue a career in clinical research where her passion for people and science intersect and is recognized by the Academy of Clinical Research Professionals as a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator. In her free time Kristen loves reading, writing, and spending time with her family.
Elizabeth (Liz) Del Mastro, CCRC - Manager of Clinical Research
Liz graduated from the University of Rochester in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Brain and Cognitive Science. During her undergraduate studies, Liz worked on multiple research efforts primarily investigating child development. After graduating, Liz worked as a Genetics Coordinator for a National Institute of Mental Health funded research program in Rochester, NY and then as a Clinical Research Coordinator in Dayton, Ohio. She is certified by the Academy of Clinical Research Professionals as a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator. In her free time, Liz enjoys spending time with her two sons and husband and going to live music concerts.
Marcella Manoni - Clinical Research Coordinator
Marcella graduated from Western Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2015. She then completed her education in pre nursing where she developed a passion for the science of human anatomy and physiology. Marcella has clinical experience working as a full time Psych Tech as part of the Nursing Staff at Four Winds Psychiatric Hospital in New York. She is looking forward to continuing her career in clinical research and advancing the future of medicine and patient care. In her free time, Marcella can be found painting, rock-climbing, walking her two wiener dogs, and searching for the best vegan food.
